Happy Friday! First off, we wanted to remind you that voting for the Innovator Awards ends next Friday, February 19. Show your support by heading to http://www.innovationproject.com/2016-innovator-awards/ and voting Flywire the Most Invisible Innovation! Now on to the news . . .
Here’s what we read this week:
Today’s technology bridges knowledge gaps by connecting international students and colleges virtually. NPR published an article looking at video-based technology and how it is being used to help international students find the educational institution that best fits their needs, and vice versa. One company YouVisit even produces interactive virtual reality tours that allow students to explore campuses.
International education is now Australia’s third largest export. The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that after coal and iron ore, the country’s third largest export is now international education. Last year, Australia saw a 13% increase in travel involving education, while 2014 experienced a 14% rise.
A record-breaking English lesson just took place in Sydney. According to The Pie News, students from 62 countries took part in the world’s biggest English lesson earlier this week. Teachers from 27 English Australia member colleges worked together to develop the lesson plan, which covered “idioms, conditionals and how to sound more natural when speaking in the past tense.”
